Swamis Yoga Retreat - so much peace & love
02/12/2017Kenthurst, SydneyAustralia, NSW4 (out of 2 ratings)
In Swami's Yoga Retreat we cleaned rooms, tiled a bathroom, planted some veggies, took care of Ponies, cleaned the dishes and finally became chefs
Australia is a big country. Massively big. Exploring this country by car takes a lot of petrol, strength and stamina. But it has so much to offer, there are plenty of breathtaking things to do around every corner. It is sometimes difficult though not to lose yourself between all the driving and sightseeing or animal watching. After more than 17.000 km travelled around the country and two weeks non-stop rain from Brisbane to Sydney we were out of travel-batteries. Just as we needed a break, we found a marvellous place at the outer suburbs of Sydney, Australias most famous city. Swami's Yoga Retreat offered us a paradise-like home. Besides this it offered us a place to rest, try out new things and learn about ourselves. Finally we had some time to find our way. read more

It's a lot of work, but we optimise the harvest of the next season
We follow the cry of the Kiwis and our way leads us totally unexpected from Waihi, the gold mining town, back to the east coast town: Opotiki. Our new friends from France Mimi & Gaël arranged a job for us. Even if there are only two weeks left before Biancas parents come to New Zealand we accept that kind offer. We spend much time with our friends, survive chilly nights, do a very important job and dive deeper into New Zealands Maori culture. read more

Snapshot of a Gisborne harbour laborer
The season seemed to be 4-5 weeks behind schedule. At least thats what they told us in Hawkes Bay. It was one of the reasons for us to get the apple picking job eventually. And it was really enjoyable warm during the days. We didnt expect Gisborne to show off these freezing cold windy and rainy days. But finally we got through these temperatures and our second job in the packhouse. read more

Gannets' wash
Oops, time is running really quick. We have spent the last 5 weeks picking apples in Hawkes Bay. A long but never boring episode. Mostly we were too tired after work, so we just had a shower, some dinner, prepared food for the next day and went to bed. There are thousands of tourists visiting Hawkes Bay every year. They are coming for the apples, wines and there is so much more to explore. Therefore we are about to see what beauty the region has to offer: Te Mata, Cape Kidnappers, Art Deco Walks.read more

Apples like in Grimm's tales
If you are on the job hunt in New Zealand, you usually start looking for jobs in the internet. At least thats exactly what we did. After several applications on diverse ways without any success whatsoever, we get a little nervous. However the nearly ending apple season in Hawkes Bay brings us finally our first NZ Dollar into our account. read more

Cute fur seals make themselves comfortable at Cape Palliser
We like the cutest little capital in the world, even with the wind. But now the will to discover increases again. And not only that makes us start to direction Hawke's Bay, there is also that emptiness in our wallets. And so we go where the work waits. And there is already one opportunity...at least we thought so. read more

Yogi on Mt Victoria, high above NZ's capital Wellington
And because we didn't drive for such a long time - let's do 1000km in one ride. Aprils fool!Unfortunately not. Kind of spontaneously we have to leave the island and drive from Kerikeri in the Far North to Wellington on the southern edge of New Zealands North Island. Not only that trip was exhausting. Sometimes just the weather - especially Wellingtons winds can be very tough. read more

Aroha Island presents a stunning sunrise on Easter Sunday
Still we are enjoying the relaxing and lovely atmosphere on Aroha Island and stay there because we ain't got no other plans. And how relaxed it is: we just work 2h a day and got free accommodation, free wifi, free use of showers, laundry, powered site, kitchen facilities and free kayak hire. And at night time we can go on a kiwi hunt as often as we like to. Friends come and go, Thomas shows fisherman skills and finally we dicide to start to new adventures after the busy easter holidays. read more

This is a catch! Manager Simon, Wwoofer Alex and Thomas bring home four big delicious snapper
Yes, we've got the SCC sticker and the card, but it is kind of hard to find a good free campsite in Northland. And so we spend another night on a campground. Like always: tourguide Bianca found us a very special place which combines coziness with excitement: we stay on Aroha Island, an Ecocenter which wild kiwis call their home. And as a sleeping guest you're allowed to take a walk around the island and have a closer look. So we stay there, one night. One night.read more

Amazing sunset lights on the way back from Whangarei Falls
Bit by bit we are exploring the North along the Pacific coastline. And it seems like our job search is not so successful. Hard working labourer like us isn't what the Northlanders are looking for (right now). Settled in New Zealand. We are already 10 days down under and slowly but surely we know New World, Countdown or PaknSave, driving on the left side isn't strange anymore and even our new driving home feels very naturally cosy. First day on the beach in Long Bay Regional Park near Auckland
That is how it feels to buy a car in New Zealand. Done.We are shocked, more than happy, so proud, very nervous and absolutely excited. Feeling in between those emotions we spend the first few days and nights in our new campervan. Sure - we need to get used to everything: where to put our stuff, how to use the appliances, what to look for. Last but not least - how to find a place for the night? read more

Our new home on wheels
Stunning - we survived the first few days on the other side of the world: opening an account, getting over the jetlag and having just a bit of sleep from time to time and spending the first NZ$. Now it is time to find us a new home on wheels. On www.trademe.co.nz we found a promising one. A 1996 Ford Econovan, but from Tauranga. And because we are too late for the bus into the Bay of Plenty, we made an appointment with Holger (the van owner) in Auckland. Lets hop on the mana bus from Wellington to Auckland. read more
